One Great Dress- A Little Shimmer and Shine

I burn, I pine, I perish. Everyone knows that I’m a sucker for some good sparkle, and this dress is no exception. Plus a matching headband? If you have ever thought to yourself “is this too much bling?” look to this shining bride for some guiding light.

Bridal Myths Busted- The Most Common Misconceptions

Are you panicking about your upcoming Bridal Gown Appointment? Never fear, Lovelies! We’re going to fill you in on some more common misconceptions about the world of bridal. Get ready to be the most polished, poised, and professional bride in the salon!

Leave your coffee, kids, and dogs at the door!

Trust me, we want you well caffeinated and ready to try on some dresses, but your iced mocha and our white dresses don’t mix, so we really appreciate it if you can schedule your coffee hour before your appointment. Also chasing toddlers around will only take up precious dress trying time! Not to mention we’ve got a plethora of objects sitting around that are not kid friendly, so this is the perfect excuse to hire a sitter for a few hours and have some good ole’ fashioned girl time! And you may laugh, but we’ve heard so many stories of pups in bridal salons, but these are some high quality garments we’re talking about people! We do not want a re-enactment of a wedding dress mishap of Hollywood proportions (Meet the Parents anyone?)

Mo’ People, Mo’ problems.

As fun as it is to involve all of your favorite people in the dress selection process, it can sometimes become a hindrance to you. When that many opinions start flying around, you as the bride can start to lose sight of what your vision of the wedding should be. Try to keep your group small, and bring people who know you best! That way the opinions you are getting are in reference to your personal style. It’s also a great idea to do a little bit of shopping on your own. That way you can narrow down the options to show your friends and family!

“I don’t want strapless”.

Strapless dresses are so misunderstood. Here are the facts: wedding dresses are constructed so much differently than ready to wear strapless dresses. They are built to stay up and withstand the test of dancing, from the first dance, to the electric slide. So don’t fret! Your dress will also be tailored to fit you perfectly, and you will have the proper undergarments to keep everything in place. If you are still wary, the best way to bust this myth is to try on a variety of necklines during your appointment.

“I’m pale, so Ivory looks better on me.”

Embrace the brighter colors ladies! Sometimes ivory on paler skin tones can actually bring out yellow tones, that will give you a very washed out hue. The best way to know what looks best on you is simply to try on a variety of shades! Most dresses come in a white and ivory option, and sometimes a few things in between!

We know you’re freaked out by the train, but don’t worry. It bustles.

Although it’s not seen in modern fashion much today, the bustle has been around since the Victorian Era, so we can guarantee you that you will be able to bust a move in your dress, and look great doing it! There are many different forms of bustle, which means you are able to customize the bustled look of your dress with your tailor. Every train can be bustled, so don’t worry!

My consultant just wants to make a sale.

We want to make sure that you are leaving Lovely with a dress that you are 100% happy with, so we really are just trying to find the best dress for you, in your budget. No need to feel pressured! If you are uncomfortable with something, or want to take your appointment in a different direction, speak up! The more information you can give your stylist the better. Trust us, she will definitely appreciate it. Embrace your stylist’s knowledge of her inventory, and have an open mind!

Most importantly, come in with positive vibes!

A good attitude is the number one thing you can have to prepare you for this process. We promise to make this as easy and fun as possible for you, so sit back and enjoy the ride! We can’t wait to meet all of our upcoming brides in this fabulous new year!

One Great Dress- Down Under

This cool weather has us dreaming of a beachy getaway, and so does this dress! The flowing skirt is flawless, and the unconventional lace illusion top adds the romanticism of a bride.  Add a modern cuff, and platform heels, and our jaws drop.

Good things on the horizon…

We really can’t believe another year has flown by!  We want to thank all of your, our awesome brides, fans, and friends, for reading our blog and spreading the word about our little ole shop in the West Village of NYC.

It’s your love and praise that has given us the gumption to open up another shop clear across the country in West Hollywood!  (West seems to be a trend here…is there a West Austin or a West Boston we can open in next).  We can’t wait to bring you the making of our next location, and plan to share lots of decor and details along the way!

And 2012 has so much more in store, as we are embarking upon franchising.  If you are interested, email us at info@lovelybride.com.  And please do spread the word about our new west coast store and franchising…your recommendations help us find the best brides and employees ever!

We’d like to take a moment to highlight and be thankful for a great 2011 year:

  • Did you get to celebrate our 1 Year Birthday with us?
  • We love our store manager Cassandra and her hubs James, so naturally we were gaga about their wedding!
  • Our mind is still blown that we were named the coolest bridal shop in NYC by Lucky magazine.
  • Your votes on our blog and facebook really helped us figure out next year’s dress buy.  We’ll get your help again in 2012!
  • We started adding sponsors in 2011.  Let us know if you’d like to be featured for 2012 by emailing us!
  • And here it is ladies…our very favorite One Great Dress of the year 2011!

Have a happy, healthy and safe new year and we look forward to more fun in 2012!
