Ready to break out of the mold?! An asymmetrical neckline might just do the trick. Sometimes it can feel like the only option for wedding dresses is strapless, but there’s a great big world out there. Interesting and unique dresses abound, even from the most traditional of designers. So, go sans necklace and show off that collarbone! You’ll be sure to wow your guest and husband to be in this definite fashion statement.

Recently, I saw The Sweetest Occasion’s pick for pink wedding dresses as a favorite trend for 2010 weddings, and it really got me thinking… If white (or ivory) wasn’t the norm would I go for another color? Here are my favorite considerations for alternatives, pink and other, to the traditional white dress.
Absolutely love this sparkling grey dress from
Reem Acra
Soft pink perfection from
Sarah Seven (a Lovely designer!)
Ultimately, I know a white dress is for me. I actually really love the color ‘white’ (my staple outfit is a white t-shirt and jeans). Still, it’s good to know us brides have more options these days. So if your favorite color is blue and you look awesome in blue, I say go for it.

GG 2010 red carpet…you were just ok. Not a ton of fashion risks, but as always there were a couple of shining fashion moments that will likely translate into some fab bridal gowns. Here are Lovely’s favs…
Emily Blunt in Dolce and Gabanna and Maggie Gyllanhaal in Roland Moret look great in the mermaid silhouette. The architectural pleats make both dresses look modern.
The peplum trend looks great on a more sleek skirt. Kate Husdon’s va va voom Marchesa and Christina Hendrick’s Christian Siriano both have a vintage flair. We’ve seen the peplum on a full skirt from Monique Lhuillier, but a straight skirt style feels very ‘next.’
Some honorable mentions are the ruffle and the and the one shoulder. Anna Kendrick looks beautiful, but a little too mature and Nicole Kidman looks sweet in her Nina Ricci.
Christina Aguiliera is pretty rocking in the Versace, but this look would be tough to pull off for bridal. Last but not least, Chloe Sevigny has a daring twist on the ruffle in a Valentino dress. It could overwhelm some, but she pulls it off gracefully.
Unfortunately, 2010 paled in comparison to some of our 2009 GG favorites. Let’s recap with a look at some of our favs from last year….
Sandra Bullock in Christian Dior, Kate Beckinsdale in J Mendel, Olivia Wilde in Reem Acra, and Drew Barrymore in Christian Dior

Being ‘inspired by’ vintage is much different than vintage. No one wants their wedding photos to look like they walked off the screen of a Mad Men episode, but the references to the past are what makes a wedding look vintagey modern. Well we love love love, can’t get enough of Jen’s fabulous dress in her recent wedding to Brian, shot by One Love Photo. She has just the right amount of vintage inspiration, but manages to look fresh and modern in her look. We wouldn’t even call it current, we would call it timeless. For more dress envy, visit One Love’s site or the post Style Me Pretty did on this wedding. And click on the photo below to view the detail…this dress deserves it!

Having been married for a whopping six months now, I thought it would be cool to get another voice into this blog…a ‘something new’ if you well. Enter the lovely Amanda Wright…newly engaged, fashion saavy, and a Type A like myself who will leave no stone unturned to find the perfect dress! Her search is your gain, so enjoy another take on the mission to find the ultimate wedding dress!
Hello Lovely Ladies!
I’m Amanda…a recently engaged New Yorker, who fell in love with the idea for Lanie’s new store Lovely. I can’t wait for this much needed addition to the bridal scene in NYC. But in the meantime, I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences searching for the perfect LWD (long white dress, instead of LBD!) or just about anything else wedding fashion related. I spend a lot of time reading wedding blogs, so I’ll be sure to share the best of the best that I find.
But now, let’s get down to business with one of my truly dream dresses!

It’s the one of the left and the only picture I can find of this amazing Carolina Herrera dress. The unique neckline really gets me, you rarely seen anything like it! I’m all about unique when it comes to a wedding dress. As long as it says YOU, and hey we are all unique, then it can’t be wrong. I’ve been told this dress is no longer being made so I’m out of luck, but it’s the inspiration for my search, the dress by which all others will be compared. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
