Real Wedding – Celebrate In Style

Sathya and Sreenu celebrated their wedding in enviably elegant and festive style with a stunning Indian ceremony and reception.  Surrounded by overjoyed friends and family, the happy couple wed in the Hudson Valley and had their special day photographed by the talented Rachel Hulin of Bird in the Hand Weddings.  From the traditional ceremony to the summer-perfect reception, theirs is a wedding you’ll have to visit over and over just to make sure you catch all of the incredible details.  Sathya, a fashion designer, even created the pattern for a custom sari that suited her glowing personality best and looked positively radiant in her wedding day design.

Lovely: Tell us about THE dress and what inspired your look.

Sathya: So as a child, my understanding of a wedding was limited fairy tales and there was never any question that a bride would wear white. When I realized that I was going to be marrying an Indian man, the white dress was just not an option and try as I did to get used to the idea of wearing a heavy Indian outfit, I couldn’t. So I worked with my patternmakers to fashion a dress/sari of sorts that would help me fuse that gap between my fantasies and my culture and in the end we were able to preserve that timeless silhouette.

Lovely: What were the most important details to pulling off your dream wedding? The location was the most important thing. We fell in love in Hudson, got engaged under a waterfall in Cairo, NY and wanted to continue that tradition with our wedding. We also wanted to share the magic of this place with our friends and family.

Sathya: Aside from that, we wanted incredible Indian food, the best music, our dj actually came in from Chicago, Jesse de la Pena, and gorgeous flowers. I also wanted the feeling of American countryside meets Indian village in a festival of color and warmth.

Lovely: What was the most memorable moment?

Sathya: It was such a beautiful dream, I was in a daze throughout the day. I would say, when the veil was lifted from between us during the ceremony and I got to see Sreenu on the mandap for the first time.

Lovely: If you could give future brides any advice, what would it be?

Sathya: Enjoy the moment. I worked on details until the day before the wedding and it left me exhausted. Whatever doesn’t get done, let it go. Regardless, everyone will have fun and be merry!
