Bridal Stylist – Navy and Green

We absolutely love when a bride comes to us in need of advice. Being around endless wedding dresses and colorful bridesmaid dresses, we’ve put together so many wedding combos at this point, we could style each bride in 2011!

So when Ashlee asked about colors she rarely sees together, Navy and Green, we thought we’d share the inspiration we came up with for her, with all of you!

I am dying to use navy blue and/or hunter green for my fall 2011 wedding, but I can’t find inspiration anywhere!  Everything I see is purple, red and orange.  PLEASE HELP!!  I would love to see some dark blue flowers, dark green accents, etc.  Any inspiration you could help me with would be great! Thanks, Ashlee

We think these colors together have such a rich, classy finish! It’s probably one of the only combos we hadn’t imagined ourselves in our shop. Thanks Ashlee for introducing a new color trend to our readers, and to us!

Tis the Season For Giveaways!!!

With Holidays just around the corner, where engagements abound, we’ve teamed up with Timeless Designs and Cly Creation Photography to bring you a Lovely guide to all that sparkles and a behind the scenes look into how these breathtaking engagement rings are made!

First, a little background. Timeless Designs is a fine jewelry manufacturer based in the heart of New York’s diamond District that specializes in engagement and wedding bands. Their rings are all handmade and completely customizable. We got a first hand look at just what goes into making these beauties, and here’s what we found:

Each ring starts with the customer, that’s you! Once you determine the style of ring that you love, Timeless Designs can then make the same ring ten different ways, customizing the side stones and diamonds to your preference. Customers are given countless options. One customer added their initials to the side of the ring, while another sent in a photograph of a design element that they loved, and it was incorporated it into the ring for them. Gentlemen, this comes in handy when you can’t find exactly what you’re looking or. Timeless can make it for you!

After customers specify what they want, the CAD designers work on bringing it to life by drawing out the ring in a sketch. From there, the ring is then transformed from sketch to reality and made into a wax form. The wax form is then sent to the casting company to be cast and then finally returned back to Timeless Designs where it gets sized, has the stones chosen and placed into the ring, and gets engravings.

The final steps are a polish, cleaning, and quality control to ensure that each ring leaves the shop just how the customer wanted and, with a sparkle that will catch anyone’s eye!

A big thank you to Timeless Designs for sharing their process with us and giving us a factory tour. We had so much fun! And, a very big thank you to Cly Creation for taking all of the absolutely stunning photographs and listening to us swoon over every piece!!

Bridal Stylist – Feminine Funk

Our Lovely bride Ashta has such unique style and flair that we just couldn’t keep her photos to ourselves! We love how her big white bow, gold hoops, and bright red lips punch up her Sarah Seven shortie with ease.  We’ll leave it to Ashta to share the inspiration that helped bring her out-of-this-world vision to life and spill all the details on her look!

THE LOOK:
The most important thing for me was to look like myself, which was difficult since I have a tomboy style in my everyday dress.  Think sneakers, skinny jeans, ribbed tanks, cardigans and I tend to put the focus on oversize earrings and scarves.  So once I started researching in bride magazines and blogs, I knew I wanted to concentrate on the overall look and not the dress.  I spent more money on the accessories than on the dress. The theme of the wedding was Brooklyn, so I wanted to look modern, artsy, and fun. I knew I didn’t want to look sweet and demure, so bright red lips and nails were just the perfect pop!

DRESS:
For the dress, I really wanted something simple and sexy – almost a blank canvas for accessorizing and to showcase the shoes.  I didn’t want to spend a great deal of money on a white dress so fancy I couldn’t dye it an awesome color and re-wear it again, which I am planning on doing (Dove Grey? AMAZING!) Sarah Seven was the perfect choice and being a fashion designer I love to support small independent fashion labels and small bridal boutiques like Lovely.

JEWELRY:
The earrings were the first part of the outfit that I picked when I started planning for the wedding. I had my earrings made at a jewelry store in downtown Brooklyn.  I love fun “urban” jewelry and even wore my “BUCKETS” necklace and chains, that I wear everyday, during the reception. I wore my black diamond engagement ring on my right hand and had a triple ring stack for my wedding bands designed by a jeweler friend.

SHOES:
I wanted something that was fun and whimsical…I originally feel in love with the red patent Valentino D’orsay but I didn’t love the $800 price tag.  I loved the look of the bow on the front and the bold, sexy red color. As time passed, I realized that I already owned the perfect shoes: Melissa by Vivienne Westwood.  My birthday is on Valentine’s day so I always purchase accessories with hearts on them, and on a whim a year ago I purchased these shoes and had only worn them once since….PERFECT!

I also had to get a few photos in of my sneakers that I changed into midway through the reception. I knew sneakers were going to part of day and they just fit so perfectly for the overall look. My Jeremy Scott Adidas are my favorite sneakers – so dope and so me, and everyone got a kick out of it.

VEIL:
I fell in LOVE with a Philip Treacy veil, but again, I just could not imagine spending $600 on one headpiece.  I really wanted something striking when I walked down the aisle, so I figured if I could not buy I had to make it!  My mom and I used references that I found online to construct an awesome tulle veil, which was PERFECT! I also purchased a bow from Ban.do to wear during the reception, which was also fun, over-the-top, and had a definite 80′s Madonna “Like A Virgin” vibe that I loved.
